When you think of off-roading, you probably picture rocky trails, dusty desert landscapes, and wide-open spaces. But for those who push their adventures past sundown, there’s a whole different side to the journey. One defined by crackling campfires, shadowed tree lines, and the deep, satisfying quiet of the night. It’s this side of off-roading that inspired Night Rider, a limited-edition Black IPA brewed in collaboration with Historic Brewing Co. and KC HiLiTES.

The Backstory

KC and Historic Brewing Company share more than just a hometown in Flagstaff, Arizona. We’re both small businesses that share a love for adventure, craftsmanship, and community. When the idea for a collaborative brew came up many years ago in 2019, both brands saw a chance to capture the spirit of late-night trail runs and off-grid campouts in a single can. Since then, it’s become a bit of an annual tradition for us.

The result for our latest 2025 KC x HBC collab is “Night Rider”. This beer is our take on a bold, rich Black IPA with a can design that tells its own story. Set against a nighttime forest backdrop, the artwork features a Land Cruiser 250 outfitted with a Platform One™ roof rack, tent, and campfire, all illuminated by the warm, amber glow of KC’s signature side lights. This was an intentional nod to TrailRecon, whose Land Cruiser 250 was instrumental in the R&D process for the Platform One™ roof rack.

Why a Black IPA?

The choice of a Black IPA wasn’t just about flavor. The dark, rich color felt like a natural fit for a beer that someone would drink at a campsite after some late-night adventures on shadowed trails that come to life under the glow of KC lights. With a 7% ABV and 68 IBUs, this beer packs the right punch for those who like their nights a little bolder. This Black IPA is rich, complex, and layered like the off-road adventures that inspired it. Expect a dark, roasted malt backbone with hints of coffee, chocolate, and a piney hop finish. Aka, the perfect match for a serene night around a campfire.

Final Thoughts

Night Rider isn’t just a beer. It’s a tribute to those who keep pushing after the sun goes down, who light their own path, and who find peace in the quiet places. So crack one open, take a deep breath, and let the night surround you.

Cheers to the night riders.
