Four Wheeler Magazine Presents Kibbetech’s 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Prerunner Build
“A few companies take the prerunner idea to mean that it has to have a full-tube chassis and a full leather, custom-made interior. That’s all cool, but maybe a little much. Then, there are others who make the absolute best out of the stock truck they’re starting with. Kibbetech is of the latter idea with this beautifully capable 2003 Chevrolet Silverado…”
KC HiLiTES is proud to be a part of this awesome Kibbetech Preunner build, absolutely no areas of performance and quality were overlooked including lighting. Read more below for complete build details and KC HiLiTE product features on this beautiful 2003 Silverado by the one and only Kibbetech.
It utilizes much of the stock cab and interior pieces, and there’s no custom dash or door panels, but it’s everything you’d need to roll the peninsula.
A full Kibbetech Long Travel suspension sits beneath the Chevy. Up front is a Kibbetech A-Arm Long Travel kit that utilizes Kibbetech 2.5 Race Hubs. Cool, finned-reservoir King Shocks 2.5 coilovers and 3.5 five-tube bypass shocks (per side, of course) provide damping, while Wilwood four-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors provide plenty of stopping power.
The rear suspension is also Kibbetech, but it’s a trailing arm setup that also features many of the parts as the front. King 2.5 coilover shocks and King 3.5 bypass are again used, but this time there’s six bypass tubes to choose from. Willwood brakes are again used, but here the rotor size is 13 inches.
Also used front and back are 39-inch BFGoodrich KR Baja T/A tires that have been mounted on 17-inch Performance Machine (PM) Race wheels. The wheels are gold, for the bits and pieces throughout the truck.
There’s big power coming from the Mullenix Racing Engines’ stroked 402ci LS2 engine too. Putting out 630 horses, the engine is enhanced with a 95mm Holley throttle body that connects to a Holley Hi Ram intake manifold. A K&N air filter cleans the incoming, but the Pacesetter headers route the spent fuel out. But between the headers and the MagnaFlow mufflers are a set of electric cutouts for when full power is needed and ear drums be dammed.
A CRC-built 4L80 transmission puts the power to the Camburg Racing 9-inch full floater rearend equipped with 40-spline, 300mm axles. It features a spool and Yukon 5:14 gears. Coast Driveline of Ventura, California, built the driveshaft. A full Kibbetech cage combines the front and rear, and the cab is still of 2003 vintage, but the rear fenders and front clip are 2014 Fiberwerx units. The front end swivels up to reveal the entire front end, engine, and suspension—very cool, and practical too.
Inside, the truck remains the Chevy it is, but a couple of additions enhance the setting. A 10-inch Lowrance has been expertly installed where the stock glovebox was, and a leather-covered center console houses the Winters gate shifter, a pair of Auto Meter gauges, a rear brake lever, and various switches and buttons. There are even a couple of cupholders.
Then, there’s the trio of Beard seats. With the cage taking up much of the interior space, and the space needed for other items, such as coolers and bags, three seats were deemed enough. PRP harnesses keep everyone bound even during high-speed whoops runs.
When we said at the beginning that Kibbetech makes the most of what they do, we meant that they’re attention to detail is as good as it gets. The tinwork (aluminum panels) is on par with the best hot rods and the workmanship for the whole build is spot on, yet understated.
This Chevy is what we look to when thinking of a capable, comfortable prerunner that has everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t.
